May 2012 Chaper Meeting

                                  May 2012 Chapter Meeting

The chapter meeting this month was again packed full of fun.  We had the honor of having the Chanhassen American Legion Color Guard kick things off.  Chris, unlike most elected officials, listened to the members and did not mention that we are number (you know) again.  He instead shanghaied Susan Stevens into doing it for him via the visual aid of a #1 flashcard.

We sadly said farewell to Vince and Karen Turk.  This was their last chapter meeting, as they will be moving to Florida next month.  Vince and Karen did say that we all have an open invitation to their Miami home - I say we all show up in January!  Dale Roseen, Matt Hardy, and John Garley talked about some of the past rides and some of the upcoming ones - in the limited time they weren't allowed (you just had to be there).

Tim Dunphy introduced 15 new members:  Steve Fenn, Jeff Reitan, Brian Browman, Chris Lits, Dennis Olsen, Jon Karg, Shane and  Amy Mullers, Marg Smith, Jim Borchart, Doug and Sharon Henke, Tawn Porter, and Josiah Keske.  With so many recently-single new chapter members, Tim and Chris may have discovered the need for a new chapter officer -- marriage counselor.

John Garley reminded us that even though the chapter has remained accident-free, there have been some individuals that have been "pushing it" by running some red lights during group rides.  He also reminded us that when going through stop signs, that we follow the Noah's ark rule of 2 by 2.

We had two great informational speakers this month - Vicki Ernst from Dial a Ride - for when you or someone you know has been drinking and needs a ride home for themselves and their bike, and Bill Shaffer from the Minnesota Dept of Public Safety who talked about motorcycle laws and handed out laminated cards for our saddle bags.

Dale and Ricci talked about this year's MVP give-away - the Ozark Mountain Ride and Sweepstakes.  We also had a special drawing in honor of Women Rider's Month - just for the ladies, of course.  The wonderful meal was provided by the Garleys - thank you so much.  It was an event-packed meeting, and I'm tired just typing about it.  So the next time you see me, ask me what else happened - in person.
