What was your Spark
My Dad always gave me a ton of s _ _ t about riding a Honda – so one day I told him to put his money where his mouth was and sell me one of his for a substantial discount. Well, to my surprise he agreed. That next weekend, I sold my Honda Valkyrie and bought a Road King Classic that was not even a year old for $7,500.

Michael's Favorite Ride for 2008 / 2009
My favorite ride with the chapter was the ride to where it all began – Itasca State Park. It was the first overnight ride our chapter when on and was very well attended. The trip up full of long and windy road both to and from. It was the first time, I truly felt like I got to know some great people that are part of our chapter on a more personal level. You can learn a lot about a person when you get on a HD and just point in any direction and ride…

I started riding metric dirt bikes at a very early age. My first Harley was a 1968 Sportster that was literally in a box, I bought it from my neighbor
And got a lot of help / advice from the local HD dealer and got it put back together, it was a great 1st bike. Building that bike and learning from the dealer really got me to become a lifetime Harley rider/owner.

Matt’s Favorite Ride for 2008 / 2009
My favorite ride was the Elko Demo run. Our Road Captain John planned an awesome ride through south/southeast MN. 140 plus miles around many lakes, past farms, fern and fauna and of course many twisties. The weather was not the best, a little cool and windy however the route was second to none. Well planned rest stops, gotta have ice cream , no matter the temperature.
The destination was fun also, we saw Monster trucks, Motorcycle jumps and lots of racing. The best was the Dukes of Hazard jump and the figure eight school bus race.

What was your Spark: (What got you into Harleys)
I got onto the back of our webmaster/photographer’s bike six years ago. It was not a Harley but at least it was a bike. Three years ago we got the Harley and I love the difference in size and power from the first bike. But it doesn’t matter what we ride, I haven’t been off the back of any bike since he put me on six years ago.

What was your Spark?
(What got you into Harleys)
My spark was the image of Easy Rider’s freedom and self reliance, like a modern day cowboy. However, it did take a few decades to get around to it.
Where are you from?
I was born in Evansville, Indiana, a town on the Ohio River that was a big munitions producer during WWII. My own mother riveted airplane wings in a Corsair plant there. My father was born and raised in a log cabin on an 80 acre farm in Pike County Indiana. That was all a long time ago.
Why did you decide to become a member of the board?
I appreciate the opportunity to make a contribution, and Membership lets me meet everyone. Remembering names is still a challenge.
Other hobbies besides Harleys.
In my 20’s I had a ‘Bucket List’ that included; Scuba Diving, Sailing, Flying, and Biking. I still have Sailing left to do. Along the way I did own a horse boarding stable for 15 years and was a Cowboy/Farmer. We boarded horses, gave riding lessons and raised chickens and ducks. I have hunted small and large game in Minnesota and Colorado, and was a Firearm Safety Instructor at the Watertown Gun Club for a few years. I have four children that are independent thinkers and choose their own path to follow. We have enjoyed riding horses, ATVs, snowmobiles, and motorcycles.
I guess my other hobby is life, and mowing the lawn of course.
